Nueva Ecija

Interior province of northern Luzon Island in the Philippines; area 5,284 sq km/ 2,040 sq mi; population (1995) 1,506,000. The capital is Palayan. The Pampanga River flows through the province, and it is one of the major grain- and rice-producing regions of the Philippines. The provincial government is based at Cabanatuan, which is an important trading centre.
