Nunn, Trevor Robert (1940– )English stage director. He was artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company 1968–86 and artistic director of the Royal National Theatre, London, England, 1997–2003. He received a Tony award (with John Caird) for his production of Nicholas Nickleby (1982) and for the musical Les Misérables (1985). He directed Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Cats (1981), which played in London's West End 1981–2002 and theatres worldwide. Other musicals include Starlight Express (1984), Chess (1986), and Aspects of Love (1989); and other plays include The Fair Maid of the West (1986–87), Othello (1989), Timon of Athens (1991), Measure for Measure (1991–92), and Heartbreak House (1992). During the late 1990s, his productions of Oklahoma!, The Merchant of Venice, and Summerfolk won Evening Standard Drama Awards. In the 2000s, he directed a modern version of Hamlet (2004) and Royal Shakespeare Company productions of King Lear and The Seagull (2007). For television he directed The Comedy of Errors (1990) and King Lear (2008).
