In the arts, the key material used to create a work of art, such as oil paint, clay, or pastel; also the means used to convey information, such as the written word or television. Artwork combining more than one medium is known as mixed media. In painting, a medium also refers to the liquid in which the pigment colour is suspended.

Under sterile conditions, the spores were rinsed with water, collected on filter paper, suspended in water and sown on 12 ml of nutrient medium in culture tubes (20 mm x 125 mm) with screw caps that were tightened to reduce moisture loss.
The process takes about 7 weeks in culture in the laboratory with frequent changes of nutrient medium.
richardii gametophytes were cultured in a full nutrient medium, 1/10,000, 1/100,000, 1/1,000,000 and zero nutrient on standard agar plates.
