Nye, Gerald P(rentice) (1892–1971)

US senator. Originally appointed and then elected to the US Senate (as a progressive Republican from North Dakota 1925–45), he chaired a special committee 1934–37 investigating arms sales in World War I. The findings re-inforced the US belief that the USA should remain neutral in World War II.
