Nykvist, Sven

Nykvist, Sven (1924–2006)

Swedish cinematographer. He was known for his use of light to create subtle and beautiful camera shots and was associated with the director Ingmar Bergman. From the mid-1970s he worked frequently in the USA. His films include Jungfrukällen/Virgin Spring (1960, for Bergman), Pretty Baby (1978, for Louis Malle), and Fanny och Alexander/Fanny and Alexander (1982, for Bergman). He directed Oxen/The Ox in 1992.
