Nystedt, Knut (1915– )

Norwegian composer. In 1950 he founded the Norwegian Soloists Choir and conducted it 1951–90, giving many performances of modern works.

After studying at the Oslo Conservatory and with Copland in the USA, he worked as a church organist from 1938, and as a conductor with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra from 1945.

Choral and opera

Christmas Opera with Crown and Star (1971); church opera Song of Solomon (1989); Lucis Creator Optime for soloists, chorus, and orchestra (1968); Four Grieg Romances for a cappella chorus (1992).

Other

Sinfonia del Mare (1983); five string quartets (1938–88).
