Nystedt, Knut (1915- )

Norwegian composer. In 1950 he founded the Norwegian Soloists Choir and conducted it 1951-90, giving many performances of modern works.

After studying at the Oslo Conservatory and with Copland in the USA, he worked as a church organist from 1938, and as a conductor with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra from 1945.

Works

Choral and opera

Christmas Opera with Crown and Star (1971); church opera Song of Solomon (1989); Lucis Creator Optime for soloists, chorus, and orchestra (1968); Four Grieg Romances for a cappella chorus (1992).

Other

Sinfonia del Mare (1983); five string quartets (1938-88).
