O'Meara, Mark Francis (1957– )

US golfer who in 1998 at the age of 41 won the US Masters and the British Open. Although a leading player in world golf since the 1980s, these were his first major victories. To cap a memorable year he also won the World Match Play championship and was voted Player of the Year by the US PGA Tour. With Tiger Woods, he helped the USA to win the 1999 World Cup, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Born in Goldsboro, North Carolina, he turned professional in 1980, a year after winning the US Amateur Championship. He appeared in the US Ryder Cup team in 1985, 1989, 1991, 1997, and 1999.
