OS/2

Single-user computer operating system produced jointly by Microsoft Corporation and IBM for use on personal computers, particularly when attached to large IBM computers. Its main features are reliability – useful for running file servers – and a powerful object-oriented graphical user interface, Workplace Shell.

OS/2 was announced in 1987 but sales were poor. Microsoft abandoned it in 1992 to concentrate on Windows. IBM abandoned attempts to sell it on the mass market in 1997, but supports its use as a corporate and network computer operating system.
