Oberon, or The Elf King's Oath

Opera by Weber (libretto by James Robinson Planché, based on Wieland's poem and further back on the medieval French romance Huon de Bordeaux). It was produced in London at Covent Garden on 12 April 1826. The opera is about Oberon, King of the Elves, and his queen, Titania, who resolve to stay apart until they find a human couple who stay faithful in the face of adversity. Sir Huon and Rieza face a series of tests, restoring the elves' faith in love.
