Obraztsova, Elena (1937– )

Russian mezzo-soprano. She studied in Leningrad and made her debut at the Bolshoi, Moscow, as Marina in 1963; she sang the same role in New York at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1975. She made her debut with the Metropolitan Opera House Company in 1976, in Adriana Lecouvreur. She has appeared widely in Europe as Carmen, Dalila, Amneris, Eboli, and Helen in War and Peace. Her Azucena at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1985 had a mixed response.
