Octavia (1st century AD)

    0.03 sec.

Octavia (AD 40-62)

Roman noblewoman, daughter of the Roman emperor Claudius and Messalina. She married Nero AD 53 but was divorced by him and placed under house arrest in AD 62. She was subsequently banished to the island of Pandateria where she was executed on a false charge of treason.

Her story forms the subject of the only surviving Latin play on a contemporary subject, Octavia, which is often attributed to Seneca.
