Perissodactyla

One of the orders of hoofed mammals, characterized by the possession of an odd number of toes on the hind foot, and by the presence of a third trochanter (projection) on the femur or thigh bone. There are three living families of Perissodactyla: Equidae (horses); Tapiridae (tapirs); and Rhinocerotidae (rhinoceroses). In addition there are a number of extinct forms.
