Ogden

City and administrative headquarters of Weber County, north Utah, USA, on the Weber and Ogden rivers, 51 km/32 mi north of Salt Lake City; population (2000) 77,200. The second-largest city in the state, it is a processing and railway distribution point for the surrounding irrigated agricultural area, and a military supply centre for nearby Hill Air Force Base. Industries include aerospace development, tourism, meat-packing, and canning. Building materials, chemicals, furniture, processed food from local farms, clothing, batteries, and stone, clay, and glass items are produced in the city. Ogden is the home of Weber State College (1889).

Originally a trading post in the 1820s, it was settled by Mormons in 1847, and laid out in 1850.
