Ogino, Ginko

    0.75 sec.

Ogino, Ginko (1851–1913)

Japan's first woman doctor. She left her husband after a year of marriage because he infected her with gonorrhoea. Finding it intolerable to be treated by a male doctor, she decided to become a doctor herself. As a woman she could not enrol in medical school but after eight years, aged 28, she was allowed to study privately. She dedicated her life to treating the sick.
