Ogooué

River in West Africa, rising in the Lékéli Mountains in southwest Congo; length 1,200 km/746 mi. The Ogooué flows from north to west and then southwest, receiving several tributaries on both sides, including the Lolo and the Ivindo. It enters the Atlantic through a delta about 150 km/93 mi south of Libreville in Gabon.

Dr Albert Schweitzer founded a hospital on the banks of the Ogooué at Lambarene, in Gabon, in 1913.
