Ojai

Resort town in Ventura County, southwestern California, USA, in the Ojai Valley, 18 km/11 mi north of Ventura and 100 km/60 mi northwest of Los Angeles; population (1990) 7,600. Settled in the 1870s in an oilfield area, Ojai is now a resort with an artists' colony, and citrus and avocado groves. Its annual tennis tournament, held in April, is said to be the oldest in the USA; a music festival is held in June.

Local educational facilities include The Thacher School, a preparatory institution founded in 1888. Ojai was the location for ‘Shangri-La’ in the 1937 film Lost Horizon.
