Okeechobee

Seat of Okeechobee County, southern-central Florida, USA, 3 km/2 mi north of the northern shore of Lake Okeechobee, 98 km/61 mi northwest of West Palm Beach; population (1990) 4,900. It is a market centre trading in local fish, frogs' legs, and agricultural products. Tourism plays an important part in the town's economy, and there are numerous facilities for lake fishing. The Brighton Seminole Indian Reservation lies 24 km/15 mi to the southwest; population (1990) 500.
