Okolona

Town in Jefferson County, northern Kentucky, USA, 13 km/8 mi southeast of Louisville; population (1990) 18,900. It is a largely residential suburb of Louisville.

Okolona

Joint seat, with Houston, of Chickasaw County, northern Mississippi, USA, 27 km/17 mi south of Tupelo; population (1990) 3,300. It is a farming, lumbering, and dairying centre. Okolona was fought over repeatedly in the American Civil War; Nathan Bedford Forrest won a victory for the Confederates here in February 1864, but Union troops subsequently burned Okolona on two occasions.
