Oktyabrski

Town in the Bashkir Republic, west-central Russian Federation; population (1996 est) 11,000. Oktyabrski lies on the River Ik (a tributary of the Kama), 150 km/93 mi southwest of Ufa. It was founded in 1937 following a major oil strike, and has since grown rapidly as the centre of the Volga-Ural oil region.
