Bexley

Outer borough of southeast Greater London, including the suburbs of Crayford, Erith, and Sidcup; population (2001) 218,300. Local industries include armaments manufacture at Crayford, site of the Vickers Factory, since the 19th century.

The name Bexley was first recorded in 814, but signs of Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age settlement exist. The area was mostly rural until the coming of the railways in the late 19th century.

Red House was built in 1840 for the writer and designer William Morris. Hall Place, a country house built in 1540 for Sir John Champneis, Lord Mayor of London, was extended in the 17th century and now houses Bexley Museum. 18th-century Danson Park, has grounds landscaped by ‘Capability’ Brown.

Bexley

City in central Ohio; population (1990 est) 13,100. Although surrounded by the eastern side of Columbus, this residential suburb functions as a politically independent entity. It is the home of Capital University (1830).

A monument commemorates the site of the Spanish-American War's Camp Bushnell.

Derek Conway, (Con, Old Bexley and Sidcup) was ordered to repay more than pounds 16,000 of taxpayers' money after being reprimanded for overpaying his sons, Freddie, who worked as a researcher while he was a student in Newcastle, and Henry.
As well as claiming mortgage interest and household bills for his designated second home in London, the independent MP for Old Bexley and Sidcup reportedly spent hundreds of pounds in office expenses on his family house in Morpeth, Northumberland.
Conway is standing down as MP for Old Bexley and Sidcup at the next election.
