Old Orchard Beach

Resort town in York County, southwest Maine, USA, on the Atlantic Ocean, southwest of Portland; population (1990) 7,800. Its beach extends for 8 km/5 mi from the Saco River to the Scarborough River. A popular recreation and amusement centre, Old Orchard Beach attracts large numbers of Canadian visitors and has been nicknamed ‘Québec's Riviera’. The town of Saco adjoins the resort to the west.

Old Orchard Pier, now mostly demolished, was for many years noted for its promenade and dance hall.
