Old Style

Qualification, often abbreviated to ‘OS’, of dates before the year 1752 in England as quoted in later writings. In that year the calendar in use in England was reformed by the omission of 11 days, in order to bring it into line with the more exact Gregorian system, and the beginning of the year was put back from 25 March to 1 January.
