Old Westbury

Village in North Hempstead town, southeastern New York State, USA, in western-central Long Island, 5 km/3 mi northeast of Mineola; population (1990) 3,900. It is an affluent New York suburb, with large estates and stables. New York Institute of Technology (1910) and the State University of New York College at Old Westbury (1966) are here. Old Westbury Gardens is a popular attraction.
