Olive Branch Petition

In the American Revolution 1776, the final effort by the colonists to conciliate the British government, after the outbreak of hostilities. The petition was not allowed to be presented, and the only answer given to the appeal was a large increase of land and sea forces, and a declaration in Parliament to take stern measures against the ‘conspirators and insurgents’ in America.
