Oliveros, Pauline (1932– )

US composer. Her works employ live electronics and scenic effects, often guided by meditation.

She worked at the San Francisco Tape Music Center 1961–67 and has taught electronic music at San Diego from 1967.

Works

opera, choral, and vocal

ceremonial opera Crow Two (1974); King Kong Sings Along for chorus (1977); The New Sound Meditation for voices (1989); Midnight Operas for chorus (1992); Nzinga, the Queen King music theatre (1993).

Elecronic and ensemble

To Valerie Solonis and Marilyn Monroe in recognition of their desperation (1970); Phantom Fathom for mixed-media (1972); 1,000 Acres for string quartet (1972); The Yellow River Map, meditation (1977); Gone with the Wind for ensembles (1980); The Wheel of Times for string quartet and electronics (1982); Portraits for brass quintet (1989); Listening for Life electronic (1991).
