Olmi, Paolo (1954– )

Italian conductor. After study with Franco Ferrara he appeared with leading orchestras from 1979, making his opera debut at Bologna, in 1986. He conducted Rossini's Mosè in Rome (1988), and Guillaume Tell in Paris (1990). He made his British debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in a concert performance of Nabucco; he conducted Mosè in London at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in 1994. He worked at the Deutsche Oper, Berlin in 1992, conducting La forza del destino. Recordings include Bellini's Zaira and the first modern edition of Rossini's La Siège de Corinthe.
