Oman, Charles William Chadwick (1860–1946)

English historian. He was professor of modern history at Oxford University 1905–46, specializing in military history. His works include A History of the Art of War in the Middle Ages (1898), A History of the Peninsular War (1902–11), A History of England before the Norman Conquest (1910), Napoleonic Studies (1929), A History of the Art of War in the Sixteenth Century (1937), and On the Writing of History (1939).

Oman was born in Muzaf-farpur, India, and educated at Oxford. He was Conservative member of Parliament for Oxford University 1919–35 and was made a KBE in 1920.
