Amos

Book of the Old Testament written around 750 BC. One of the prophets, Amos was a shepherd who foretold the destruction of Israel because of the people's abandonment of their faith.

Amos

Town in Abitibi County, northwest Québec, Canada; population (1991) 13,800. It is situated 390 km/240 mi northwest of Ottawa, near the head of the Harricana River, in the rich farmland of the east ‘Clay Belt’. Established in 1914 on the Canadian Northern (Canadian National) Railway, it depended economically on agriculture and lumbering. It has a number of large saw and paper mills.
