Oncina, Juan (1925– )

Spanish tenor. He made his debut at Barcelona in 1946 as Massenet's Des Grieux; later that year he sang Almaviva at Bologna, opposite Tito Gobbi. He appeared at Glyndebourne as Don Ramiro, Ferrando, Comte Ory, Busoni's Scaramuccio, Fenton, Don Ottavio, and Lindoro (1952–61). At Florence he was heard in operas by Cherubini and Lully. He attempted Verdi and Puccini roles from 1963. He sang at Hamburg between 1971 and 1974.
