Onomichi

City and port of Hiroshima prefecture, Japan, on the Seto Naikai (Inland Sea); population (1995 est) 93,800. The city has been a commercial port since the 12th century, and shipbuilding is still an important industry. Other industries include motor manufacturing. There are shipping services to islands in the Inland Sea and to northern Shikoko.

Onomichi is home to the 9th-century Buddhist Senko Temple. It is situated on an elevated site near a planetarium and an observatory.
