Onondaga County

County of central New York State, USA, in the Finger Lakes region; area 2,031 sq km/784 sq mi; population (1990) 469,000. Its seat and largest conurbation is Syracuse, whose metropolitan area occupies a large part of the county's eastern-central section. The city serves as a distribution point for the dairy products, poultry, and vegetables produced in the rural portions of the county. There is considerable resort development, particularly in the southwest, around lakes Otisco and Skaneateles.
