Oosting, Henry J(ohn) (1903-1968)

US botanist. He was an authority on the plant ecology of the eastern USA, including Maine forest birches and the effects of salt spray on the vegetation of the North Carolina coastal dunes.

Oosting was born in Holland, Michigan. He taught at the University of Minnesota (1927-32), then moved to Duke (1932-63), conducting full-time research after retiring from academic duties.
