harvestman

Small animal (an arachnid) related to spiders with very long, thin legs and a small body. Harvestmen are different from true spiders in that they do not have a waist or narrow part to the oval body. They feed on small insects and spiders, and lay their eggs in autumn, to hatch the following spring or early summer. They are found from the Arctic to the tropics. (Order Opiliones.)

Members of the families Tetragnathidae, Amaurabiidae, Salticidae and Pisauridae and of the order Opiliones were observed almost exclusively in areas of the cave with low gas concentrations and on substrates with a measured pH of nearly neutral and thus inhabited a more limited spatial range within the cave.
