Orchomenus

Ancient city in Arcadia, southern Greece.

Orchomenus

Ancient city in Boeotia, central Greece. At one time it was the capital of a powerful prehistoric mainland and maritime kingdom but was later overshadowed by Thebes.

Excavations have revealed considerable remains of the prehistoric city.

She was youngest daughter to Amphion son of Iasus and king of Minyan Orchomenus, and was Queen in Pylos.
Ascalaphus and Ialmenus, sons of Mars, led the people that dwelt in Aspledon and Orchomenus the realm of Minyas.
His body, cast into the sea, was brought to shore by dolphins and buried at Oenoe (or, according to Plutarch, at Ascra): at a later time his bones were removed to Orchomenus.
