Ordzhonikidze

Former name (1954–91) of Vladikavkaz, the capital of Alania (formerly North Ossetia) in the southwest of the Russian Federation. This name derived from the Bolshevik leader Grigory Ordzhonikidze, who imposed the Soviet system on the Caucasus region in the 1920s.
