Organization Commune Africaine et Mauricienne

Organization founded in 1965 to strengthen the solidarity and close ties between member states, raise living standards, and coordinate economic policies. The membership includes Benin, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Côte d'Ivoire, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, and Togo. Through the organization, members share an airline, a merchant fleet, and a common postal and communications system. The headquarters of OCAM are in Bangui in the Central African Republic.

OCAM was in 1965 as the Organization Commune Africaine et Malgache. This was itself a successor to the Union Africaine et Malgache de Co-operation Economique, which had operated between 1961 and 1965. In 1970 it became the Organization Commune Africaine Malgache et Mauricienne, and when Madagascar withdrew from the organization in 1975 the present name was adopted.
