Orofino

Seat of Clearwater County, northern Idaho, USA, on the Clearwater River, 60 km/37 mi east of Lewiston; population (2000) 3,200. A timber shipping point since the arrival of the in 1928, Orofino remains a gateway to one of the largest stands of white pine in the USA. Lumbering, timber milling, diverse agriculture, dairying, and livestock rearing all contribute to the town's economy. The Dworshak Dam lies to the northwest.

Originally a mining town during the 1860 gold rush, Orofino was moved 40 km/25 mi from its former site in 1898.
