Orontes

River rising near Baalbek, Lebanon, flowing north into Syria and Turkey and west to the Mediterranean Sea, 65 km/40 mi north of Latakia; length 400 km/250 mi. It used mainly for irrigation.

Syria and Turkey are in dispute over the use of Orontes' waters. Syria has reduced the flow of Orontes water into Turkey in protest at Turkish damming of the Euphrates.
