Orphée aux enfers

Operetta by Jacques Offenbach (libretto by Hector Crémieux and Ludovic Halévy), produced at the Bouffes Parisiens in Paris on 21 October 1858. The operetta is a spoof on the original Orpheus: Orpheus is delighted at the prospect of freedom when Eurydice dies, and arrives in Hades to reclaim her only because Public Opinion forces him to.
