Orsk

Town in Orenburg oblast (region) of the Russian Federation, in southwestern Siberia, at the junction of the rivers Ural and Or; population (2002) 251,000. Orsk is situated near the border with Kazakhstan, and lies 250 km/155 mi southwest of Orenburg (which was originally founded in 1735 on this site). It is the centre of the major Orsk–Khalilovo metallurgical complex, which encompasses the nearby town of Novotroitsk, and manufactures iron and steel, together with non-ferrous metals such as nickel and aluminium. Petroleum products and heavy machinery (locomotives) are also manufactured in the city. The city was originally a fortress.

Kazakhstan's major oil ports are: Atyrau and Aktau; major oil export pipelines are: Tengiz-Novorossiisk (Russia); Uzen-Atyrau-Samara (Russia); the Kenkyak-Orsk (Russia) line that transports oil from the Aktyubinsk fields to the Orsk refinery; and the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) that transports oil from Western Kazakhstan to the Black Sea at Novorossiysk (Baker and McKenzie, 2002).
Onako consists of the 160,000 b/d oil producer OrenburgNeft, a 81,000 b/d refinery at Orsk, 22 oil depots and 132 petrol stations in the Orenburg region.
The oil is produced from three wells and is delivered to the Orsk refinery in Russia, until a pipeline from Kenkyak to Atyrau is completed.
