Orwell

River in Suffolk, England. It rises, as the River Gipping, a few kilometres north of Stowmarket, through which it passes. It flows through Needham Market to Ipswich, where it becomes tidal and takes the name Orwell. Below Ipswich it joins the River Stour and forms the estuary on which the port of Harwich is situated. The river is navigable to Ipswich.

Orwell

Town in Addison County, western-central Vermont, USA, near Lake Champlain, 34 km/21 mi northwest of Rutland; population (1990 est) 1,100. A former sheep farming centre, it remains primarily agricultural. Mount Independence lies to the west.
