Ossining

Town in Westchester County, southeastern New York State, USA, on the east bank of the Hudson River, 52 km/32 mi northeast of New York City; population (1990) 34,100. Primarily residential, it has electronics research facilities and some light industry, producing wire, office furniture, and medical instruments.

The community was originally called Sing Sing. The Sing Sing Correctional Facility, now the Ossining State Correctional Facility, was established here in 1824.
