Otaka, Tadaaki (1947– )

Japanese conductor. He studied at the Toho School of Music and the Vienna Hochschule. He was principal conductor of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra (1974–81), and the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra (1981–86). He conducted the BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra from 1987, leading it at the 1991 London Promenade concerts in music by Tippett (Piano Concerto) and Strauss (Heldenleben).
