Othmayr, Kaspar (1515-1553)

German clergyman and musician. He studied at Heidelberg University where he was a pupil of Lemlin for music. He held church appointments at Heilsbronn and Ansbach, but his Lutheran faith caused him to retire to Nuremberg around 1550 on account of religious controversies. He took part in the development of German polyphonic song.

Works

Latin motets, German hymns and other sacred music; an Epitaph on Luther's death; 26 secular songs contributed to George Foster's collection.
