Otley

Town in West Yorkshire, England, 15 km/9 mi northwest of Leeds, on the River Wharfe; population (2001, Otley and Wharfedale) 24,500. Otley has an agricultural trade and manufactures leather goods and machinery. Nearby are woollen and worsted mills.

Near to the town is Farnley Hall, where the painter William Turner produced many of his works; it contains a fine private collection of his paintings. Otley has a 17th-century grammar school. The seat of the Fairfax family is at Denton Park nearby.
