Ottawa County

County of southwest Michigan, USA, bounded to the west by Lake Michigan and drained by the Macatawa, Black, and Grand rivers; area 1,469 sq km/567 sq mi; population (1990) 187,800. Its seat is Grand Haven. Commercial fisheries, beach resorts, and oil refineries are situated along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Manufacturing takes place at Grand Haven, Holland, Jenison, and Zeeland. Agriculture in the area includes livestock and poultry rearing, dairy processing, and the cultivation of tulips, celery, grain, potatoes, and sugar beet. Two state parks and the Grand Haven State Game Area are located in the county.

County of northern Ohio, USA, bounded to the northeast by Lake Erie, and to the southeast by Sandusky Bay; area 655 sq km/253 sq mi; population (1990) 40,000. It incorporates the Bass Islands, and its seat is Port Clinton. The rural areas of the county yield fruit, grain, sugar beet, dairy goods, and market garden produce. Genoa, Oak Harbor, and Port Clinton are the main manufacturing centres. Other activities include commercial fishing, limestone quarrying, and power generation; the Davis-Besse nuclear plant (1977) lies in the east.
