Otter, Anne Sofie von (1955- )

Swedish mezzo-soprano. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London and has sung in London from 1982. She appeared with Basel Opera (1983-85), making her debut as Alcina in Haydn's Orlando Paladino. Her US debut was made in 1985, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and she has appeared widely in Europe. She returned to London in 1985, making her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as Cherubino, where she has also performed Bellini's Romeo (1992). She made her New York debut at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1988, as Cherubino; in 1989 she appeared at the Salzburg Festival, as Berlioz's Marguerite. Other roles include Orpheus, Octavian, and Mozart's Sextus and Dorabella.
