Ouimet, Francis

Ouimet, Francis (Desales) (1893–1967)

US golfer and stockbroker. He was the US amateur champion in 1914 and 1931 and won many other matches. He was a player or a nonplaying captain for every Walker Cup team from 1922 to 1949 and in 1951 he became the first US elected captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, Scotland.

Ouimet was born in Brookline, Massachusetts. As a 20-year-old amateur, he won the US Open in 1913 on the Brookline, Massachusetts, course where he caddied as a youngster. He took up a career as a stockbroker and played his long career as an amateur.
