Administrative area in Québec, Canada, comprising the five cities of Aylmer, Buckingham, Gatineau, Hull, and Masson; area 470 sq km/182 sq mi; population (1991) 201,536. It includes the Québec suburbs of Ottawa, Ontario; Outaouais is the French spelling of Ottawa. The community forms part of the Ottawa metropolitan area, and much of it lies within the National Capital Region.
