Ovchinikov, Vladimir (1958– )

Russian pianist. He studied in Moscow and was joint Silver Medal winner at the 1982 Moscow International Competition. He was winner of the 1987 Leeds International Piano Competition and made his London recital debut that same year. He formed a piano trio with Alexander Vinnitsky and Alex Rudin in 1989, with whom he has made recordings of works by Rakhmaninov and Shostakovich. He was teacher at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, from 1994.
